SED HUB SCIENCE STUDIO

Interactive Experiment Lab

Explore three age-friendly activities that connect science ideas to hands-on investigation.

Challenge 1 · Bridge Engineering Simulator

Explore how span, deck thickness and material affect a simplified classroom model of bridge load capacity. This is a learning simulation, not a structural safety calculation.

Adjust the controls to begin.

Real classroom challenge: build a paper bridge between two stable supports and test using small, identical, non-sharp objects under adult supervision. Keep fingers clear of falling objects.

Challenge 2 · Rocket Launch Explorer

Adjust thrust, payload mass and launch angle to see an approximate trajectory. The model ignores air resistance and is not intended to predict real launches.

Try 30°, 45° and 60°. Which angle gives the greatest idealised horizontal range?

Challenge 3 · Food-Web Detective

Choose the best answer. Energy passes through organisms in a food web, starting with sunlight captured by producers.

1. Which organism is a producer?

2. Grass → rabbit → fox. Which organism eats the rabbit?

3. What might happen to foxes if rabbits become very scarce?

Choose one answer for each question.
